Title

Design and development of Field Robotics Vehicles for Plant Nursing.

Time

August 2nd to 27th, 2010

Location

Faculty of Engineering, University of Southern Denmark, Odense

ECTS credit

7.5

Teaching language

The official teaching language for this course is English. This includes meetings, lectures, handouts, as well as student group work, reports, posters etc.

The exam will be conducted in English or Danish based on your personal preference.

Course subjects

  • Visual and mechanical design of field robotics vehicles for plant nursing.
  • Construction of embedded computer systems for such vehicles.
  • Physical mode of action of sensors and actuators.
  • Development of electronic interfaces for sensors and actuators.
  • Software development for sensors and actuators (vehicle layer), for control and locomotion based on sensor perceptions (navigation layer), for an autonomous state machine (mission layer).
  • Hands-on experience with design and development of mechanics, electronics, and software.
  • Introduction to project groups from other study programmes.

Learning goals

The students must be able to:

- Explain and account for design requirements when developing field robotics vehicles for plant nursing.

- Transfer and vitalize existing technical competences to the listed course subjects.

- Act as active team players obtaining a technically applicable, good-looking, practical designed solution.

- Collaborate with areas of specialization of other course participants and document this by drafting:

1) a process report i.e. a group contract and minutes of meetings,

2) an individual poster presenting application and personal, technical competences within the developed group product.

Evaluation

Individual demonstration presentation of the project product as well as an oral presentation of the contents of the individual poster thus demonstrating application and personal, technical competences.

Grading will be according to the Danish 7 point scale.

Grade 12 is given for:
An excellent presentation, where the student orally demonstrates a high level of command of all aspects of the learning goals containing no or only few weaknesses.

Grade 02 is given for:
A presentation where the student orally command approximately half of the learning goals in relation to personal, technical competences – meaning absence of several fundamental principles and comprehensions.

Teaching form

Introductory lectures (20 hours) and hands on work (160 hours). You must expect a work load corresponding to at least monday-friday 8.30 to 16.00.

Requirements

Enrolled in an engineering or science study program and passed the 4th semester in design, mechanics, computer science, physics, mathematics, etc.

Accommodation

Low cost at the nearby KOLD college, we can help you with this.
